English as a Second Language Certificate

The focus of Bay Path's English as a Second Language (ESL) Certificate is to offer graduate students and working professionals a more in-depth understanding of working with our K12 English language learners, that is comprehensive and evidence-based. Graduate students and professionals can use this knowledge in the field to better serve our K12 EL population. The certificate consists of 12 credits (4 courses) and all courses are offered fully online.

What will I learn?
Program content covers first and second language acquisition, linguistics, assessment, methods of teaching ESL, and historical, legal & philosophical bases for ESL.  

When can I start the Online Master's (MSEd/EdS) in English as a Second Language Degree program?
Classes begin in January, May, and September. 

Can I complete the Online Master's (MSEd/EdS) in English as a Second Language Degree while working full-time?
You have the option to attend full-time or part-time.  The majority of our students are working full-time and are able to manage their academic coursework with their outside commitments. 

How many courses and credits will I need to complete?
The Master's in English as a Second Language degree program is a 39 credit program. The EdS Degree is 42 credits.

Is the Master's (MSEd/EdS) in English as a Second Language Degree offered online?
Yes, the course schedule is 100% online. Students learn in a small, intimate, highly dynamic, and interactive online community. 

Do you offer MTEL preparation?
Yes. Bay Path University’s educator preparation programs offer various ways candidates can prepare for MTELs (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure). Learn more here.

Graduate credits can be transferred into most programs. 

Do I have to take a standardized test for admission?
No. The GMAT and GRE are not required.
